Plink Now for BlinkNow
This year, our entire school - from kindergarten through fourth grade - is exploring the question, Why Should Children Go To School? Our hope is that Blakely students can begin to recognize how education is a privilege and that it can empower them to make a difference in their worlds.
We are now launching a culminating activity called Plink Now for BlinkNow (see:http://www.blinknow.org). This is a student-driven fundraiser for BlinkNow, an organization that focuses on educating and empowering children and women in Nepal. What is particularly special about BlinkNow is that it was created by an eighteen-year-old teenager. Maggie Doyne began by helping one girl go to school and continued onward to build this internationally-recognized foundation that currently supports an orphanage, a school, and a Women's Center.
We want to show our students how they too can make a difference in their global activities. Plink Now for BlinkNow will give our kids the opportunity to do so and to extend their educational experience beyond the walls of our school and into the world.
Here are the specifics: Throughout October, we are asking each household to give students change for doing chores around the home or for helping other people in their community. In turn, students will bring their earnings into their classrooms and "plink" their change into a donation box marked for BlinkNow. At the end of October, we will collect the funds raised by our kids and make one mass donation to BlinkNow. Through their efforts, we hope to show our students how priceless their access to education is, that they are part of a global community, and that they too can affect the world regardless of their age.
